Wana Dupa

The Meaning of
Wana Dupa

Wana Dupa is an eco-friendly aromatherapy incense made from bio-briquettes produced from recycled canang biomass. The name Wana, derived from the ancient Javanese or Kawi language, means forest or lush nature, while Dupa means incense. Together, Wana Dupa symbolizes peace, relaxation, and harmony between humans and nature.

The product is also inspired by the Balinese philosophy of Bhuana Alit (microcosm) and Bhuana Agung (macrocosm), which emphasizes the balance between human beings and the universe.

4,281Tons / Day

Daily waste produced across Bali, nearly 60% of which is organic matter from daily offerings.

60%Organic Waste

Of Bali's total daily waste is organic — primarily derived from canang sari offerings.

The Background of
Wana Dupa

Canang sari is a Balinese Hindu offering that symbolizes gratitude, devotion, and harmony with nature. However, the large number of daily offerings generates significant organic waste. Bali produces approximately 4,281 tons of waste every day, nearly 60% of which is organic.

Although canang waste has been used to produce compost and other innovative products, its potential as renewable biomass fuel remains relatively unexplored. This inspired our team to create Wana Dupa, transforming discarded canang flowers into aromatherapy incense while supporting waste reduction, renewable energy, and the circular economy.

The Advantages of
Wana Dupa

Wana Dupa offers several environmental and practical benefits.

Waste Reduction
